Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) offers the world's leading range of certificates for both learners and teachers of English. A Cambridge ESOL certificate can help you gain entrance to college or university, improve your prospects at work, or simply provide a measure of your progress in English. It operates in a hundred and thirty five countries worldwide and each year over one and three quarter million people attempt to gain a Cambridge ESOL qualification.
Cambridge ESOL is part of Cambridge Assessment, formerly known as UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate), a non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge, England. Cambridge Assessment is Europe's largest assessment agency and one of the largest internationally recognised assessment agencies in the world. A not-for-profit organisation, it is currently celebrating it's one hundred and fiftieth anniversary (2008).
TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are umbrella terms for all the various English language teaching awards available worldwide. As such, all Cambridge ESOL teaching awards are 'TEFL courses' (or 'TESOL courses').
