Cambridge ESOL teaching awards
-*- CELTYL -*-

Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) offers the world's leading range of certificates for both learners and teachers of English.  A Cambridge ESOL certificate can help you gain entrance to college or university, improve your prospects at work, or simply provide a measure of your progress in English.  It operates in a hundred and thirty five countries worldwide and each year over one and three quarter million people attempt to gain a Cambridge ESOL qualification.

Cambridge ESOL is part of Cambridge Assessment, formerly known as UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate), a non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge, England.  Cambridge Assessment is Europe's largest assessment agency and one of the largest internationally recognised assessment agencies in the world.  A not-for-profit organisation, it is currently celebrating it's one hundred and fiftieth anniversary (2008).

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are umbrella terms for all the various English language teaching awards available worldwide.  As such, all Cambridge ESOL teaching awards are 'TEFL courses' (or 'TESOL courses').

Application procedure

Applicants must observe the following application procedure:

  1. Please read the application form completion notes and then complete the online application form  including the written assignment.  On receipt of a fully completed application form we will contact you to arrange a date for your interview.
  2. Face to face interviews may be conducted individually or as part of a group, and you should allow two hours for the process. Telephone interviews are approximately 45 mins long.  N.B. Telephone interviews are only for people who don't live in or around Istanbul.
  3. Face-to-face interviewees will be sent a number of interview preparation tasks on various aspects of the English language and language teaching methodology. These should be completed and returned to the school by email at least one full day before the interview date.
  4. Telephone interviewees will be sent the same set of interview preparation tasks as face-to-face interviewees, plus another set of tasks that face-to-face interviewees complete at the school on the day of their interview. This second set of tasks must be hand written and faxed (or scanned and emailed) to the school at least one full day before the telephone interview is scheduled to begin.
  5. The aim of these tasks is to help us assess your suitability for the course, as well as your ability to develop an awareness of language.
  6. If successful you will be offered a place on the next available course and asked to pay a non-refundable £200 (GBP) deposit to secure your place on that course.  Payment may be in cash, by cheque, or via electronic transfer, e.g., internet banking.  Bank account details are available upon request.  See the contact page for details of our postal address (for cheque payments).
