Introduction to Teaching IELTS

This 70-hour course combines 30 hours of live instruction with our experienced IELTS teachers and

teacher trainers with 40 hours of self-guided practice.

In 4.5 months, you will explore the format and requirements of the IELTS test and their impact on a

teacher’s practice. How to prepare your students for all four parts? What are the problems teachers and

students are facing? How to mark your students’ work and give them constructive feedback? All these

questions, and more, will be addressed on the course.

The Reflective Practice for IELTS Teachers Course

The MTS Reflective Practice for IELTS Teachers Course will help you prepare for the Trinity

College London (Level 6) Certificate for Practising IELTS Teachers.

During this course, there will be opportunities to watch videos about teaching, listen to

conversations, collaborate with other teachers, and read pertinent articles to inspire you to

experiment with teaching techniques and ideas.

Since our CertPT course requires you to obtain about 6 months of IELTS teaching practice that

you reflect on, we do not want you to be on that journey alone. You will connect with your tutors as

well as other course participants via zoom calls, and on LMS platforms. This is a great chance to

put everything you have learned during a few months of IELTS teaching practice and reflect while

you do so with us supporting you every step of the way. In addition, you will have access to the

Modern English Teacher and English Teaching Professional digital journals and engage in

Academic Reading Circles within each unit.

Certificate for Practising Teachers: IELTS Preparation

A 108-hour, fully online synchronous and asynchronous course, completed over 18 weeks altogether.

A total of 32 hours is to be delivered synchronously (inclusive of the 2-hour group tutorial) in group

sessions with a tutor. 76 hours are delivered asynchronously. Participants will access materials within

a given timeframe and will interact with peers and tutors in a series of activities.

All participants will have at least three tutorials whilst on the course. The first tutorial is for the entire

group, the second tutorial is written, and the third tutorial is conducted one to one with a tutor.

This course is a comprehensive program designed to equip educators with essential skills in

assessing, adapting, and creating teaching resources tailored for IELTS preparation.

Across multiple units, participants first gain a deep understanding of analysing class profiles, needs,

and coursebooks, followed by an exploration of systematic resource adaptation methods to enhance

learner engagement and outcome alignment. Learners advance to creating original resources,

integrating content design principles, and critically evaluating AI's role in resource development.

The course emphasises iterative trialling, collaborative feedback, and reflective refinement of

materials through Lesson Study principles, culminating in a robust understanding of resource

assessment strategies to support diverse student needs and improve instructional quality in IELTS

contexts.
